The wonderful smell of the fir tree freshly cut
and the popcorn popping to string on the branches.
The Christmas cards and presents we got from our
friends and family in St. Shotts and afar.
The images of bells, angels, kings, nativity scenes, Santa, the elves-
everywhere and mistle toe over the doors!
The Christmas carols and concerts to celebrate the birth
of a tiny child who held so much hope and love for everyone.
The excitement leading up to Christmas Eve prior to our
trip out to the church to celebrate mass with our neighbours!
Waiting to go to bed after mass, when everyone was so hyper
and had a hard time going to sleep with so much anticipation in the air!
The early morning rise to see if the jolly man
had visited our house and left us some gifts!
Friends popping by for a visit with our family, their kids playing
with our toys while the adults yarned and laughed!
These were the memories of Christmases long ago,
when no one asked for much and friends were worth more than gold!
