Ben, My Friend With Ageless Spirit

Ben was the father of a friend of mine

Mr. Ben Evans Wearing A Fair Isle Sweater and Smoking His Pipe

whose spirit never seemed to age

He had a smile and a special way about him

so you knew that he was happy to see you

When I’d visit his home after my friend was gone away

he always made me feel welcome

He took the time to share his stories and jokes

and he always made me laugh, good belly laughter

He liked to be around young people

I guess it made him feel young too

He was often seen with his pipe in his mouth

and a big grin on his face, ready to chat with anyone

All who knew him felt content in his presence

as he had that ageless spirit about him

Credit to Helen Smith for sending me the scanned photo of Ben

Thanks, Helen!

About Newfoundland Traveller

I'm a Newfoundlander with a love of reading, writing and travelling. I've travelled around our province and lived in four provinces of Canada. I love a good book and a good blog. My family means the world to me, and some day I hope to travel to many countries of the world with my husband and sons' families.
