Taking Away Our Warts

An old lady lived down the road

and Dad would send us down there

if we had warts that would not go away

Someone told me she threw a piece of pork

behind her woodstove and never spoke of the warts

and then they would miraculously disappear

I don’t know how she did it  but

everyone knew that she had a special gift

and no one questioned her

If you believed in the process

weeks later the warts would be gone

and you knew you could trust the old lady

We were told to rub a snail on the wart and then nail the snail to the top of a fence and our warts would go away.

    • There was one cure in our Social Studies book that said to cross the warts with a nail and then hammer it to a fence. When the nail turned rusty, the wart would be gone. Funny how there are so many old time cures for everything! Thanks for reading and responding!
