I’ve over 25 people writing or in the process of writing stories for a Come Home Year book in St.Shotts, so I thought I would throw the gauntlet out to folks in Pasadena. If you are a resident of Pasadena, or are from Pasadena, or have visited Pasadena, you are being invited to write a story or poem to be included in a book.
Like the book that is nearly finished in St.Shotts, I will have the final say on which stories are included in the book. A nice figure to work with is 25, so if we can get 25 or more people writing a story, one page, up to six pages, that would be over 100 pages.
- Calibri font; size 12
- nonfiction(stories / poems)
- any profit will go to the Community of Pasadena
- Deadline March 31, 2012
- Email final copy to firstname.lastname@example.org
To maintain the integrity of the book, I will have the final say in the selections. Some editing may be necessary, and I will take responsibility for this as well.
Let’s get stories about our lives in our community down on paper!
Some topics that would be of high interest to people:
*riding on the train; arrival of the train; arrival of the families back in 1936
*attending school in Pasadena and Deer Lake
*sports events and big wins/trips away etc
*leaders in the community-mayors, members of the council, and decisions made which affected our community
*priests /ministers who spent a lot of time in Pasadena-comical incidents, garden parties, dances, wakes etc.
*trips to beach, South Brook Park, other favorite places in the community
*childhood friends and pranks
*heroes- midwives, sports, brilliant students, brave individuals
*interactions between people and animals
*memorable occasions- railway being taken up, new highway decision etc
*your choice (send in any topics you’d like to read about)
Goal: To have this book ready in time for the Come Home Celebration in July 2012.
Thanking you in advance for your reading of my blog and this post in particular!
Note: Only 5 or 6 people in the other Come Home Year book(St.Shotts) had been published authors prior to the Heritage Book we have nearly completed!
You can do it! I know you can. Get your ideas down on paper. Read it to some good friends/family and then make it flow. You’ll never know until you try! Look forward to reading your stories about growing up in Pasadena(Midland, South Brook…) and/or visiting the place.
Possible Writers So Far:
Helen Smith “Getting Our First TV”
Kathleen Whiffin-Byrne(will dictate over the phone, Aunt Lean)
Madeline Murphy-Whiffin(Wanda will dictate…LOL)
Let me know who else is writing…I know the book will be a wonderful souvenir for our visitors and a special keepsake for residents!
